WHAT is STRUVITE
Struvite, a phosphate mineral deposit of ammonium and magnesium, poses a persistent challenge for Anaerobic Digestion (AD) plants and wastewater treatment facilities, causing pipeline blockages, operational inefficiencies, increased downtime, and financial strains.
Traditional methods for struvite removal involving harsh chemicals such as hydrochloric acid (HCI) and formic acid are not only dangerous but also time-consuming and in most cases, inefficient. Chemical cleaning can take between 6 and 24 hours, while mechanical cleaning can be even less efficient, taking a few hours to achieve patchy deposit removal or days to remove more substantial build-ups.
This results in significant plant downtimes, leading to production
losses, increased maintenance costs, and potential infrastructure corrosion which in time will require replacing.
what WE DO
Struvite Removal with ABS Struvite Remover
Circulation Method
The circulation method employing the ABS Struvite Remover offers a dynamic approach to eliminating struvite deposits within systems and pipework. This method involves connecting the affected system components into a closed-loop configuration. The ABS Struvite Remover is then circulated continuously throughout this closed system for a period of two hours. This process ensures thorough contact between the remover solution and the struvite deposits, allowing the remover's powerful formulation to effectively break down and dissolve the accumulated struvite. By utilizing the circulation method, operators can efficiently treat struvite-related issues without dismantling equipment or disrupting operations significantly. The ABS Struvite Remover's ability to dissolve struvite within a closed-loop system demonstrates its versatility and reliability in industrial and municipal environments where struvite buildup poses operational challenges.
Soak Method
The soak method using the ABS Struvite Remover is an effective way to remove stubborn struvite deposits from items such as pipes and equipment in wastewater treatment plants. To utilise this method, the affected items are immersed in a solution of the ABS Struvite Remover for a period of up to four hours. During this soaking time, the specialised formulation of the remover works to break down and dissolve the struvite buildup, making it easier to remove through subsequent rinsing or cleaning processes. The ABS Struvite Remover's efficacy and ease of use make it a preferred solution for combating struvite deposits in various industrial and municipal settings.
WHAT is
ABS STRUVITE REMOVER
Product Description
ABS’ Struvite Remover combines cutting-edge, bio- based chemicals sourced from fermentation processes. Effective against struvite deposits, ABS’s solution also neutralises negative environmental impact. The properties of ABS' Struvite Remover allows the waste to be fed back into a site’s Anaerobic Digestors via the front-end feeding system at a specified rate.
Struvite Remover breaks down the struvite into different components, meaning the waste that is fed back into the digestor won’t reform, instead, the bacteria can now readily digest it.
Formulation Information;
A Special blend of bio-originated chemicals, rooted in fermentation.
Properties: Environmentally friendly and highly efficient at removing struvite
Benefits ABS Struvite Remover
Cost - Effective
Traditional methods often involve the use of harsh chemicals like HCl and formic acid, and manual rodding and hosing methods which pose a risk to infrastructure integrity. Struvite Remover preserves infrastructure integrity and minimises plant downtime, leading to increased operational efficiency and cost savings.
Safe to use
Struvite Remover requires less manual intervention than current methods, reducing the risk of accidents and injuries, and making it a safer option for workers.
Sustainable Solution
By allowing waste from the removal process to be reintroduced into the AD plant, Struvite Remover creates a circular process, allowing the waste stream to be transformed into a feedstock rather than disposed of as hazardous waste.

CASE STUDY
Struvite Remover - Overview
Client 1: 4 inch pipework closed loop system
Review of 2-hour circulation method
Proof of Concept
Struvite Remover was circulated around a 4-inch pipework system in a closed loop and on another sitearound a 15 chamber heat exchanger in a closed loop for 2 hours. The systems both had severe struvite buildup within them causing reduced flow, increased pressure, reduced heat exchange capacity and excess wearon pumps.
Before circulating Struvite Remover
After 2 hours of circulating Struvite Remover
How do I know Struvite Remover has worked ?
After 2 hours of circulation there was
over 99% removal of struvite
deposits in both systems.
Flow is now maximised through the
systems, pressures have been
reduced across the systems, heat
exchange capacity has been
maximised and wear on pumps is
minimised due to reduced stress of
pumping through the systems.
Struvite Remover - Overview
Client 2: Separator Screen
Review of 4-hour soaing method
Proof of Concept
A separator screen was soaked in Struvite Remover for 4 hours. The screen had severe struvite build up allover it causing reduced flow, increased pressure, and excess wear on pumps.
Before soaking the screen in Struvite Remover
After soaking the screen in Struvite Remover
How do I know Struvite Remover has worked ?
After 2 hours of soaking the screen
there was 50% removal of struvite
deposits and after 4 hours there was
over 99% removal of struvite
deposits.
Flow is now maximised through the
screen, pressures have reduced
across the separator and wear on
pumps is minimised due to reduced
stress of pumping through the
screen with struvite deposits.
